The large number of people who have tried power kiting know that the kites that we use are more than just a child's toy, but they usually find that the act of flying a kite is literally child's play.

Power kiting is about using big kites to do something; either fly, buggy, surf, board ... Lift was set up to bring the excitement of the "Final Radical Sport", namely Power Kiting to You.

Safety is, of course, our greatest concern, closely followed by ensuring that you get the most (fun) out of your time. Safety is basically a matter of common sense, Lift will pass on our years of experience of minor cuts and bruises so you can completely avoid any kind of accident.

Mark Sankey who organises all kiting activities, has been power kiting for over ten years. After witnessing the insane "Up-Ski" pioneers at Aviemore ski centre over twenty years ago, he was inspired to try boarding using kites to extend the possibilities afforded by downhill shredding.

"I was getting a little fed up of always waiting for the ski-lift and waiting on it. You would only enjoy a small fraction of the time actually boarding", he says, adding "now, you can board indefinitely over massive tracts of land".

Mark has been instructing buggying at St Andrews for almost two years and has been kite-surfing for the first time during last summer. "What I get from flying power kites, is a massive buzz, not just from the obvious aspects, such as acceleration and air-time, but also by exploring with where and what is possible". There are now a growing number of people trying the sport and an ever greater presense of folk flying around the beaches with confidence.

The other Lift instructors are Shug, Chris, Sim who all live in StAndrews, and Jon. Mark, Chris, and Sim are qualified British Buggy Club instructors with Shug and Jon as assisstant instructors, all leading the way for talent and bottle.
